Over 3,500 organizations were registered as nonprofits in Central Texas with the Internal Revenue Service in early 2006, up 27% since 2000. (Central Texas Sustainability Indicators Project 2006 Biennial Report)

In addition to the personal philanthropy captured by the Central Texas Sustainability Indicators Project Survey, corporate and foundation philanthropy can make up a significant share of the economic activity in social equity and health programs that would otherwise fall to government sustain.
