Why We’re Here

I Live Here, I Give Here’s mission is to deepen and expand the culture of personal philanthropy by inspiring Central Texans to invest more money in our community. We educate and connect individuals and non-profits so more Central Texans experience the personal benefit of increased philanthropy.

Did you know Austin is ranked 48th out of the 50 largest cities in the nation in per capita charitable giving?

Austin is a vibrant city with a personality all its own. The people are passionate, driven, and generous volunteers of their time and talent. But that’s not enough. The biggest problem facing Austin Nonprofits is there is not enough money.

For a city so involved in protecting its natural habitats and native small businesses, the nonprofit needs of Austin should be equally met. But the severe shortage of funds for Nonprofits hurts the community every day.

This is where I Live Here, I Give Here steps in. Our main purpose is to connect people like YOU with the issues you care about and the Nonprofits that support them.

I Live Here, I Give Here is proud of the work we have accomplished since our launch in 2007. We connect the people of Austin with the causes they care about.

We partner with nonprofit groups so they can be more accessible to you. We spotlight specific needs in Austin every month to let you know how you can help.

Please check out our Programs and get to know our Board Members and Staff!

This event is free and open to the general public. Frick draws from neuroscience to construct intricately hand-built work and large scale installations that explore the nature of pattern and the mind. Using her background in engineering and technology she explores self-tracking and compulsive organization. She creates life's most basic patterns as color coded charts. Steps walked, calories expended, weight, sleep, time-online, gps location, daily mood as color, micro-journal of food ingested are all part of her daily tracking. She collects personal data using gadgets that point toward a time where complete self-surveillance will be the norm. More Information:

Ian spent eight years as the Lead Illustrator and Head Sculptor at Blue Genie Art, where his ideas and vision accounted for much of the look of the various sculptures and illustrations produced at the shop. 6:00pm @  Austin Child Guidance Center
Group therapy is conducted both at our Center and offsite. The purpose of group therapy is to help children develop skills for positive peer interaction. This is accomplished by providing insight on reaching consensus and handling conflict, as well as encouraging young people to talk about their feelings through appropriate means of expression instead of screaming, fighting, or withdrawing. The group also provides feedback for the children about how other children perceive them. Call 512-451-2242 to inquire about and sign up for any of these groups. 2/15/2012 – 4/11/2012, 6-7:30 PM, Wednesdays ADHD Parenting Group (for parents of children 5-12 year olds) This group has multiple objectives. The group will work to increase children’s compliance with commands and rules. Lastly, concepts will help improve family life through positive attention, consequences, rule-setting, and appropriate discipline. 2/15/2012 – 4/11/2012, 6-7:30 PM, Wednesdays Conflict and Anger Management (9-12 year olds) The children in the anger management group will participate in activities that correspond to that week’s topic. Our activities will focus on establishing trust within the group, developing solutions to common problems, exploring consequences, and practicing how to diffuse a heated situation. The Free Fringe
10:00pm @  Hideout Theatre
I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but the Austin improv scene is bursting with creativity. There are hundreds of performers, and every single one of them is prone to saying things like “Wouldn’t it be crazy if…?” or “I just had the most insane idea.” This is where those dreams go, not to die, but to live gloriously on the stage for one night only. Every week will be dramatically different. There could be shows with improvisers tied up in rope, 50 performers onstage, blindfolded actors, improvising dogs, or 1000 other things. Each show will be anchored and presided over by the duo Firth & Arjet, featuring Kristin Firth and Jessica Arjet (co-owner of The Hideout). THE FREE FRINGE IS FREE. FOREVER. Reserve your tickets in advance to guarantee yourself a spot. More Information:

Crip/Blood
12:00pm @  Domy Books
The work of Joshua Saunders often begins from a contradiction. It foregrounds elements that prove incendiary within the threadbare discourses of race, sex, gender, and violence. But this foregrounding is backed by the artist’s intense desire to get them out of the way. He does not want to talk about them. Asked whether or not his work has a place in these conversations, he is evasive. “The work is (about) humor.” This complicated stance exposes the train of concerns the viewer brings on her own. What makes her laugh? What makes her angry? What does and does not make sense to her modes of perception? One does not look at Saunders’ work but reaches around it, back at herself, clasping her own hand. In doing so, she’s surprised to find herself embracing, in this particular show, a cripped out puppy or a steamrolled Michael Jordan. Admission to the showing is free and open to the general public.
