Why We’re Here

I Live Here, I Give Here’s mission is to deepen and expand the culture of personal philanthropy by inspiring Central Texans to invest more money in our community. We educate and connect individuals and non-profits so more Central Texans experience the personal benefit of increased philanthropy.

Did you know Austin is ranked 48th out of the 50 largest cities in the nation in per capita charitable giving?

Austin is a vibrant city with a personality all its own. The people are passionate, driven, and generous volunteers of their time and talent. But that’s not enough. The biggest problem facing Austin Nonprofits is there is not enough money.

For a city so involved in protecting its natural habitats and native small businesses, the nonprofit needs of Austin should be equally met. But the severe shortage of funds for Nonprofits hurts the community every day.

This is where I Live Here, I Give Here steps in. Our main purpose is to connect people like YOU with the issues you care about and the Nonprofits that support them.

I Live Here, I Give Here is proud of the work we have accomplished since our launch in 2007. We connect the people of Austin with the causes they care about.

We partner with nonprofit groups so they can be more accessible to you. We spotlight specific needs in Austin every month to let you know how you can help.

iYouth Fusion Fest 2012: Austin’s Premiere Teen Film Festival and Introducing a Weeklong Film Bootcamp — channelAustin
12:00pm @  channelAustin Studios, 1143 Northwestern Ave., 78702
Tomorrow’s Spielberg’s, Tarrantino’s, Scorsese’s and other budding teen filmmakers have the opportunity to take part in two incredible programs this year during channelAustin’s IYouth Fusion Fest (iYFF). Teens across Central Texas are invited to join iYFF Film Festival—a screening of short films teens have created within the past year to be judged for cash prizes, including a first-place prize of 500 dollars! channelAustin is proud to announce the debut of a weeklong iYFF Bootcamp. This first-ever Bootcamp allows crews to train and create a short film using the same High-definition, digital equipment found in Hollywood’s production studios. “Not only are we excited to debut a new program—iYFF Bootcamp—to those interested in filmmaking, but we could not be happier that channelAustin is in its third year of presenting iYFF Film Festival,” Executive Director Linda Litowsky remarks. “Each year the number of films submitted to the Festival increases. We hope our newly-added iYFF Bootcamp will encourage even more teens interested in film to take part.” For the third consecutive year, channelAustin is calling on teens between the ages of 13 and 18 to submit an original film, created within the last year to the iYFF Film Festival. The festival screening and awards ceremony on June 10 will be held at the Marchesa Hall Theater with a panel of critically acclaimed judges, such as Marjorie Baumgarten, Senior Film Editor at the Austin Chronicle, and Paul Marino, Cinematics Director at EA Games, in attendance. Baumgarten and Marino will provide valuable feedback to crews and individuals, as well as award cash prizes. channelAustin’s newest program offered—iYFF Bootcamp—is a combination of seminars, workshops and mentorships that prepare crews of five to seven teens to make a high quality film of social relevance that addresses a topic they care about. The week begins with a day of small group seminars hosted by film industry professionals. Training on channelAustin’s fully digital high-definition equipment—professional cameras, microphones and lighting kits—kicks off a day later. With a mentor by their side and guidance from the pros, teens then have the next three days solely devoted to creating their film. At the end of the week crews go head-to-head during a live, reality-style show on June 9 to present their films to the judges as well as a home-viewing audience that can call, text or tweet their votes for “Best Film”. “It is utterly amazing what kids are able to accomplish in just one week. They learn every aspect of filmmaking and they work so hard to turn their ideas into solid scripts,” iYouth Media Director Lee Webster says. “The movies the teens make are absolutely inspiring and blow the audience away!” iYFF Film Festival as well as Bootcamp submission packets are available at: channelAustin.org/iYFF. Please submit all requested material by May 10. More Information:

A Texas-sized family throw down! The Gordons of Harrison, Texas, have always been a greedy, gossipy clan. Now the malcontents from the Houston branch of the family come to the homestead and make pettiness an art form as they tangle over their inheritances. This is a play with echoes of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and rich humor reflecting Foote’s generous spirit and Texas roots.
