The Parenting Program at Mainspring Schools acknowledges that parents are a child’s most influential teacher and seeks to give parents the skills to raise school-successful children. • Disadvantaged children have heard 30,000 fewer words by the time they start school than their more advantaged peers. Language is the basis of reading, which is the basis of all other learning.
• Children who are not ready for Kindergarten are at high risk of grade retentions. The costs to society include intervention, remediation, and special education. Every $1.00 invested in quality early care and education saves taxpayers up to $13.00 in futur
• Only 19% of disadvantaged children who did not participate in pre-school were considered “school ready”.” The school-readiness rate grows to 42% for those students who did attend pre- school.
